While promising colt Warwoven is parading ahead of the Group 2 Run To The Rose on Saturday, trainer Bjorn Baker will have one eye on Kembla Grange.
His exciting filly Fovea ($1.80 with TAB on Friday) is set to debut in the maiden plate over 1000m and if her trials are anything to go by, she is going to be hard to beat.
Baker unveiled the three-year-old with an eye-catching trial at Warwick Farm on 18th August. She took off early, gapping the field, which included Snitzel colt Tenenbaum, by seven lengths.
It was a similar story in her recent trial at Gosford 12 days ago. Despite a few green moments she kicked clear to win by more than six lengths.
“She is a fast filly with a lot of natural speed,” Baker said. “Her work on Tuesday was very good, and we are looking forward to seeing her at the races.”
Fovea will again team up with Winona Costin who rode her in both trials. She has an unfavourable draw in barrier 14 but that’s likely to come into 11 and Baker isn’t concerned anyway.
“I think she has the speed to overcome the wide gate,” he said. “1000m is ideal for her and hopefully we see her put herself into the race.”
As the daughter of champion first season sire Farnan and Group 1 New Zealand Oaks winner Jennifer Eccles, Fovea has an enviable pedigree. Her full brother Farnicle, Jennifer Eccles’s first foal, has raced six times for a win and two stakes places.
“I am lucky to have been chosen to train her for the breeders, Kia Ora Stud,” Baker said. “Farnan is on fire as a sire. Her dam raced mostly at stakes level and enjoyed plenty of success. She’s an exciting filly.”
